Privacy Policy for Splitter

Last Updated: February 2, 2026

Introduction

Splitter ("we," "our," or "the app") is a local-first expense splitting application. This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected by the app and our third-party services when you use Splitter.

Information We Collect

Data Stored Locally on Your Device

All expense data, group information, and settlements you create in Splitter are stored locally on your device only. This includes:

Your expense content stays on your device. We do not intentionally upload individual expense titles, descriptions, or participant names. Session replay (only on devices with 4GB+ RAM) may capture on-screen content for diagnostics.

Information Collected by Third-Party Services

We use third-party services to display ads, understand app usage, and improve stability: Google AdMob (ads), Google Firebase Analytics (usage and engagement metrics), and Sentry (crash/error reporting). These services may collect device information (model, OS version), app version, IP address, advertising identifiers, and basic interaction or diagnostic data. For analytics, we may send pseudonymous identifiers (such as a group ID) and aggregate values like total expense amounts, payers/participants counts, and screen views. Sentry may also collect performance data and session replay to help diagnose issues. Session replay is only enabled on devices with 4GB or more of RAM to ensure performance and is automatically disabled on lower-memory devices.

Sentry error reports may include stack traces, device/app metadata, and diagnostic breadcrumbs.

Contacts Access (Optional)

If you choose to pick a person from your contacts, we request access to your device contacts to prefill a name and phone number. This access is user-initiated, processed on device, and not uploaded by us.

Sharing & Messaging

If you share summaries or backups via SMS or the system share sheet, the content is handled by your device and the selected messaging or sharing provider. We do not receive or store that shared content.
